The Loughton Amateur Dramatic Society (LADS) - Open Evening 

When: 29 May, from 7:30pm

Where: Buckley’s Bar, Lopping Hall, Loughton, Essex, IG10 4LF

What is it: An open evening to learn more about LADS whether you want to act, help backstage or simply get involved in your local theatre community.

Cost: Free.

Maldon Shanty Festival

When: 30 May, 12pm to 5:30pm & St.Mary’s Church, Church Street, Maldon, 7pm to 9pm

Where: Hythe Quay, Centaur, Hythe Quay, Maldon, Maldon, Essex, CM9 5HN and also locations around the Promenade Park and Hythe Quay.

What is it: An event which helps raise funds for the Thames Sailing Barge Trust, a registered charity. It’s followed by an evening concert at St. Mary’s Church. Shanty Crews expected from Essex and other parts of the country.

Driving and Road Smart Day

When: 31 May, 10am to 4pm

Where: Theydon Bois Village Hall, Theydon Bois, Essex, CM16 7ER

What is it: A day of safer, smarter driving and riding with on-road demonstrations, feedback on your driving/riding skills and demonstrations of practical roadside skills in the car-park.

Where: Church Path, Saffron Walden, Essex, CB10 1JP

What is it: An hour of choral music featuring Beamish, Elgar, Grieg, & others.

Bingo Night

When: 29 May, from 7pm

Where: Theydon Bois Golf Club Theydon Road, Epping, CM16 4EH

What is it: A fun Bingo night with a professional caller and many prizes from a bottle to an air fryer. Food is also available.

Cost: £20 per ticket when pre booked, £25 per ticket on the door.

Essex Fire Museum - Family Open Day

When: 26 May, 31 May, 10:30am to 4pm

Where: Essex Fire Museum, Grays Fire Station, Hogg Lane, Grays, Essex, RM17 5QS

What is it: Enjoy museum trails, arts and crafts, fire safety room, old fire engines and more. The museum is free but visits must be pre-booked as the museum is on the site of a working fire station.

Harlow Recovery Cafe 

When: Weekly, every Wednesday at 10:30am

Where: The Harlow Playhouse, Playhouse Square, Harlow, Essex, CM20 1LS

What is it: A clean and sober place for people 'in recovery' to meet and have a chat.

The Wednesday Health Walk 

When: Weekly, every Wednesday at 12:00pm

Where: The Herts and Essex Community Hospital, Cavell Drive/Haymeads Lane, Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire, CM23 5JH.

What is it: A gentle walk aimed at most abilities lasting 20 to 30 mins. Meet at Reception at midday. New joiners to arrive 15 minutes earlier to register.

We’ve Got Some News… And It’s Pretty Special  We’re absolutely buzzing to share this one… Forest Radio has been awarded Epping Town Council’s Community Award 🏆 Not bad for a team that started out broadcasting to hospital beds back in 1976.

Our Feel Good Team is made up of staff from Essex Partnership University Trust (EPUT) and Classic Hits Forest Radio who have worked collaboratively to bring this project together. EPUT West Essex Integrated Community Physical and Mental Health teams joined together to develop a range of helpful soundbites to advise and support health promotion strategies for listeners. The Feel Good team invite you to tune in to Classic Hits Forest Radio for regular Feel Good information on how to make small changes that could have a big impact on your mind, body and spirit. Reggae is a musical genre that originated from Jamaica and gained popularity in the 1960s. The genre was highly influenced by American jazz, ska, rocksteady and rhythm and blues. Usually, reggae music is off beat, has a slow tempo and is drum and bass heavy. Lyrics often were politicised and stressed the social and economic injustices in the world. The genre is often linked to Rastafarianism and has spread to countries across the world. Reggae spread to the UK in the 70s and influenced bands such as UB40, Steel Pulse and Aswad. Desmond Dekker, Bob Marley and the Wailers and UB40 are three of the most influential and successful reggae artists of all time. See below a little about each artist.
