Elvis Presley was born in Mississippi in 1935 and died in 1977 at the age of 42. He is otherwise known as the ‘King of Rock and Roll’ and played the piano and guitar. Presley began his music career at Sun Records in 1954 and recorded with the band The Blue Moon Boys (Elvis Presley, Scotty Moore, Bill Black). The bands first songs together include ‘Harbor Lights’ and ‘I Love You Because’. Between 1958 and 1960, Presley served as part of the United States of America Army as a Sergeant.
Presley released 117 singles, 23 studio albums and 7 live albums. In the UK Elvis had 21 No.1’s and spent a total of 80 weeks at No.1. His No.1’s includes songs like ‘Jailhouse Rock’ (1958), ‘Are You Lonesome Tonight?’ (1961) and ‘Return to Sender’ (1962). 13 albums reached No.1 in the UK such as ‘Elvis is Back’ (1960), ‘Pot Luck’ (1962) and ‘From Elvis in Memphis’ (1970).
It is estimated that Presley has sold over 600 million records, but it could be also as close as 1 billion records sold. He is one of the best-selling solo artists of all time.
