Bruce Springsteen is an American singer, musician and songwriter born in 1949 in New Jersey. Springsteen was inspired by Frank Sinatra, the Beatles and Elvis Presley, his mother rented him a guitar when he was a young boy, and he bought his first guitar in 1964. Springsteen is a solo artist and leader of the E Street Band since 1972. Springsteen plays the piano, harmonica and guitar.
Springsteen has released 20 studio albums, 23 live albums and 72 singles. In the UK, Springsteen has no No.1 singles but had a whopping 11 No.1 albums including ‘Born I the USA’ (1984), ‘Tunnel Of Love’ (1987), ‘The Rising’ (2002) and ‘High Hopes’ (2014). In June 2019, Springsteen released ‘Western Stars’ which stayed at No.1 for a week and in the Top 10 for 4 weeks.
‘Born in the USA’ (1984) is one of Springsteen’s bestselling albums, selling 30 million records worldwide and reaching 3x Platinum certification in the UK (1,120,000 sales). Singles on the album include ‘Dancing in the Dark’, ‘Born in the USA’, ‘My Hometown’ and ‘Glory Days’. The album was nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards in 1985.
Springsteen has won 20 Grammy Awards, 2 Golden Globe Awards, 4 American Music awards and 1 Brit Award. He has sold over 135 million records worldwide and was welcomed into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999. A minor planet which was found in 1999 was named Springsteen in his honour and received a Polar Music Prise in 1997.
In October 2020, Springsteen is releasing ‘Letter To You’ which is a documentary about the E Street Band and the effects it has had on his life.
