Cliff Richard (Harry Webb) is a British singer and musician from London born in 1940. When he was 16, he was bought a guitar and was singing vocal harmonies in a school group called The Quintones.
From 1958 to 1968 he was the lead singer of Cliff Richard and the Drifters where he played guitar and sang lead vocals. The band released ‘Living Doll’ which was No.1 in 1959 and later changed their name to The Shadows.
Richard has released 46 studio albums, 11 live albums, 7 soundtrack albums and 146 singles. He has 14 No.1 singles including ‘Please Don’t Tease’ (1960), ‘Summer Holiday’ (1963), ‘Congratulations’ (1968) and ‘Mistletoe and Wine’ (1988). He has had 54 singles in the top 10 and 38 albums in the top 10. Richard had 7 No.1 albums including ‘The Young Ones’ (1961), ‘Summer Holiday’ (1963), ‘Love Songs’ (1981) and ‘The Album’ (1993).
Cliff Richard is the only singer to have a No.1 single for 5 consecutive decades in the UK. 4 of his No.1 singles were No.1 at Christmas including ‘Mistletoe and Wine’ (1988) and ‘Saviour’s Day’ (1990). He has sold over 250 million records worldwide and is one of the best-selling artists of all time. He has sold over 21 million singles in the UK.

Richard has won 23 NME Reader Polls awards, 3 Brit Awards and 9 Melody Maker Awards. In 1980 he received an O.B.E. from the Queen, 1989 received a Lifetime Achievement Award and in 1995 received a Knight Bachelor at Buckingham Palace.
