Here on Forest Radio, we love to celebrate peoples birthdays. So here are 5 birthdays in September from musicians that have had a major influence in the music industry. 

You may even share a birthday with one of these legends.
5th September - Freddie Mercury

Freddie Mercury (1946 - 1991) was a British singer, songwriter and pianist best known as the lead vocalist and pianist of the band Queen. He was well known for his stage personality and incredible four octave vocal range. 

Mercury used to use a broken microphone stand in performances after he broke one during a performance and realised how useful it could be during concerts and events.   
13th September - Joni sledge

Joni Sledge (1956 - 2017) was an American singer best known as one of the founders of the vocal group sister Sledge. The group was made up of four sisters: Debbie, Joni, Kim and Kathy Sledge. 

In the UK, the group had 1 no.1 single with 'Frankie' in 1985 and 3 other singles reaching the top 10. Some of their biggest singles include 'We Are Family', 'Lost in Music' and 'He's the Greatest Dancer'. 
23rd September - Bruce Springsteen 

Bruce Springsteen is an American rock singer, guitarist and songwriter from New Jersey. 

In the UK, he has had no no.1 singes but 12 no.1 albums including 'Born in the USA' in 1984, 'Human Touch' in 1992 and 'Letters To You' in 2019. 

His most recent album 'Only The Strong Survive' was released in 2022 and reached no.2. Springsteen is considered on of the greatest songwriters of all time.
26th September - Olivia Newton-John  

Olivia Newton-John (1948 - 2022) was a British and Australian actress and singer. 

She was well known for her main role in Grease where she played Sandy alongside John Travolta. The soundtrack is one of the world's best selling albums and features many no.1 hits. 

Newton-John was an inspiration to other artists including Kylie Minougue, Felta Goodrem and Pink. 
29th September - Jerry Lee Lewis  

Jerry Lee Lewis (1953 - 2022) was born in 1953 and is an American singer and pianist. He is known as one of the founders of Rock 'n' Roll. 

Lewis released 40 studio albums, 4 live albums and 77 singles. In the UK, he had 1 No.1 single ‘Great Balls of Fire’ released in 1957 and spent 2 weeks at No.1. 

In 2005 Lewis was awarded the Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award and in 1989 was given a star along the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

There's one big thing that sets us apart from our competition. We do it all for free. From the very beginning our aim was to create a radio station we would want to listen to. Twenty two years later and Forest Radio is the fastest growing internet radio stations in Essex. But in order for us to continue playing the good time oldies we need your help.
