Tom Jones (Sir Thomas John Woodward) is a welsh singer active from 1963. He started singing at a young age but stopped at 12 when he was diagnosed with tuberculosis. Jones was influenced by Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis and Jackie Wilson. Known for his powerful baritone voice he’s had 3 no.1 singles including ‘It’s Not Unusual’ and 3 No.1 albums ‘Delilah’ (1968), ‘Reload’ (1999) and ‘20 Greatest Hits’ (1975).
Jones has released 41 studio albums, 5 live albums. 104 singles AND has sold over 100 million records. ‘She’s a Lady’ was written by Paul Anka and was released by Tom Jones 1971 and reached No.2 in the UK but reached No.2 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 making it one of his most successful hits in the US. His last album ‘Long Lost Suitcase’ was released in 2015 and was produced by Ethan Johns, it peaked at No.17 in the UK album charts.
Jones sung the theme for the 1965 James Bond film ‘Thunderball’ and is a judge on the talent show ‘The Voice UK’. He has appeared in many films and TV show including Tim Burtons ‘Mars Attacks’ (1996), ‘The Emperor’s New Groove’ (2000) and ‘Under Milk Wood’ (2014). In 2012 Tom performed at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert in June and also performed a 50 minute set at the V Festival that August.
In 1966 Jones won a Grammy award for Best New Artist and was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1989. In 1999 Jones was awarded an OBE and in 2006 was knighted for Services to Music.

Reggae is a musical genre that originated from Jamaica and gained popularity in the 1960s. The genre was highly influenced by American jazz, ska, rocksteady and rhythm and blues. Usually, reggae music is off beat, has a slow tempo and is drum and bass heavy. Lyrics often were politicised and stressed the social and economic injustices in the world. The genre is often linked to Rastafarianism and has spread to countries across the world. Reggae spread to the UK in the 70s and influenced bands such as UB40, Steel Pulse and Aswad. Desmond Dekker, Bob Marley and the Wailers and UB40 are three of the most influential and successful reggae artists of all time. See below a little about each artist.
